Sallie Mae Call Center to Eliminate 500 Jobs

by Call Center Gal on April 22, 2010

Sallie Mae, a student lending company, is reported to close its Texas call center. This update is said to leave 500 call center jobs after the reported closure.

According to the report published at KWTX.com:

KILLEEN (April 21, 2010)—Killeen will lose one of its largest employers when student lender Sallie Mae closes its call center in Killeen, eliminating nearly 500 jobs.

Sallie Mae announced Wednesday it will close the Killeen facility and another in Panama City, Fla. as part of a restructuring plan aimed at trimming 1,200 jobs companywide this year and 1,300 jobs next year.

I know that we have heard a lot of downsizing, restructuring news involving some US businesses and their in house call centers, but I tell you, I am always surprised whenever these things happen. And I must say that I feel for them. Especially for those who started working for Killeen call center since 1994, they will have to face the possibility of starting all over again in another company or in another industry.

I just hope that these call center employees immediately find their next employer.

That’s awful. These people who worked as of 1994 as you say might not find another job easily because it had been their home for the last years. It maybe hard for them to find a new track and might as well really find a new start.
