How to Plan your Vacation Leave

by Call Center Gal on December 10, 2009

A lot of people say that working in a call center is just like working in a hospital because you can’t seem to go on leave that easily. Well that’s true, in a way.

But of course if there’s something urgent or immediate to attend to, then you can just file for an unplanned leave. But if you are the type who want to go on leave for more than three days or a week, then you have to remember the following tips on how to plan for your remaining vacation leave.

Check your team calendar

This is a usual soft document in a call center. You can access this publicly on your intranet or check the printed one to have an idea on whether or not your team can operate even without you on your planned ‘leave days’.

Talk to your Immediate Supervisor

Spend some minutes talking to your immediate superior about your plans and check if she can do something about it. Whatever you talked about should be documented, through email for practical tracking reasons.

Find someone from the team to represent you while you’re on leave

This will greatly help your team function well while you are enjoying your free days. :) Let’s say you spearheaded a team project prior to your scheduled leave. Your representative will be the one to continue your initiative while you’re away. This can go as a simple favor from a teammate or as organized as temporary assignment to someone else. Just be ready to return the favor in case they’ll be having the same need soon. :)

File your intended leave dates

Funny but by simply missing this step will not make them aware that you want a breather. Make sure to file your intended leave dates first (whether manually or electronically), then check the rest of the steps I mentioned above.

Relax and Enjoy!

After you got everything cleared, I wish you well on your free day(s). Feel free to add some more tips or to send your related thoughts on the comment section of this post.

Well said! I always plan my vacation leaves. I always file 2 at the same time to sandwich my rest days. 4 days of R&R!
