At the call center where I work, employees who are civil minded are still very active in soliciting donations, both cash and in kind, for the Typhoon Ondoy victims. Their actions are being met with great enthusiasm among our colleagues because they are very much aware that there are still a lot of people who need help. In fact, there are still hundreds of families who are still stuck in evacuation centers and they still could not go back to their homes because either their homes are still flooded or have been completely destroyed.
One thing that I find very amazing is that call center employees who are themselves victims of the typhoon are also helping out in these operations. They are either actively soliciting donations or they are giving their donations for the benefit of their fellow victims.
In my opinion, even though this typhoon brought so much hardship among our people, it also brought out the best among us. It thought us how to spring into action to help others. It thought us the importance of brotherhood, of caring for others. I hope this spirit lives on long after the effects of the typhoon have been completely felt.
