Dominating

by Call Center Gal on August 24, 2009

Have you every come across a co-worker who is so dominating that it really annoys you so much? I have met quite a few of these people during my trainings in the call center. They are usually the type who always want to be the major participant in any group discussion.

These people always have opinions on every topic, and they are not shy on sharing it with the group. Even if they are not asked for their opinion in the first place. Sometimes this is okay because it fosters lively discussions, but just like with everything else, if it’s too much, it’s bad.

Why? Because these people hog the limelight. They seldom give chance for the others to participate in the talks and when others give their own opinions, these dominant people would verbally disagree, outright. Without even first hearing the complete side of the other people.

I don’t like these dominating characters. Who does, right? They disrupt the class, they create tension within the group and they bring nothing else but animosity.

We all need to learn when to speak our mind and when to enforce our thoughts. If people disagree with us, don’t spend the whole day trying to convince them to believe you. Let them be.
