Hate Static Shock Incidents

by admin on April 24, 2009

Have you experienced static shocks when you are in the office? I had numerous static shock incidents and I hate it.

I experience this most of the time when I walk on the carpet. I even experienced this when I interact with other people in the company. When I hand over some documents and shake the hands of people introduced to me. Even when I accidentally lean on the wall after walking on the entire floor, and hold the door knob in some rooms, I still get surprised ’shocks’. :(

This prompted me to read some online resources and according to those articles, it has something to do with heat, insulation and yes, the carpet itself. I also read some tips on how to prevent these shock incidents from happening, but those tips are mostly applicable when you are in your own homes.

I mean, I don’t know if call center agents will be allowed to bring spray bottles with fabric conditioner and water to spray all over the place. I also doubt it if the company cleaners will also do the same. These incidents would have been different if offices will just use wood flooring but of course that’s another story.

For now, I have to resort to something for a quick fix. It has been a week since I always bring and hold a hanky with me as I use this to hold everything (yes, even the door knob) in the office.

This works for me, for now, but if this won’t work soon, then I have to resort to other options. Can you share some tips with me?

A lot of times when my husband comes home from work and I kiss him hello we end up getting shocked on the lips. That really hurts. Maybe I need to spray the carpet here.

It’s the carpet alright. I also work on a carpeted office and my colleagues have been complaining about frequent static shocks when on the floor. I rarely experience these shocks but i guess, some people are more sensitive to shocks than others. I was told that if you are wearing shoes with leather soles you are less likely to have static shocks.

Here’s another way to prevent it. Always have a coin handy. I always have a 25 centavo coin in my pocket every time. Touch the coin before you touch something else. even the slightest touch will do. It eliminates static. Hope this helps. :D

Hey nice blog and nice theme for the blog too. When I read of static in your post, I couldn’t stop myself from laughing because quite a few times a handshake mostly with my bosses is when the worst static hit happens. I would not want a cure though for that because I sure get hit but my boss too gets a hit.
Your blog is good in the content because it is more of call center experiences as compared to mine which is about building a career in a BPO. Good to find like-careered people.
