Call Center Applicants in their 40's

by admin on March 31, 2009

Call center applicant in his 40′s? Yes, we have applicants who are in their 40′s, and they’re welcome to work here.

That’s one good thing about call center operations. Age is not so much consideration before you get hired. All you need to do is to pass the interviews, assessments and tests and you’ll surely land a job in this industry.

I’ve been watching the local news today and I saw the struggle of a woman who was laid off from work. She’s in her 40′s, with 26 years of experience as a sewer in a textile company but she is very much challenged in her job application because of her age.

Which made me remember the applicants I saw on queue this morning. The crowd profile is really interesting. I saw some ‘fresh’ graduates, some who share the same age as my mom’s and I even saw a group of men who are more mature than my parents. All of them looked excited and hopeful.

I really hope that they also find their place in the call center industry. This offers a lot of opportunities for people who are skilled and willing to learn new things.

Why do other industries consider 40 as over age for their applicants?

This is good news. You’d think that they like older folks to work in the call centers because they have been consumers long enough to know what good customer service is.

So true! I keep telling my friend nga who has just lost her job in Korea, if she could take some english lessons and I guarantee that she will never have to find it difficult to look for a job. Uy 40-ish is not old yet ha?! hahahaha affected!!!! hehehe

It’s a relief to know that people over 40s can still apply for a call center job.

I just don’t know if those people who lost their jobs in manufacturing companies are qualified for call center skills. At a glance, call center agents require good command of English, which is something that most machine operators are not heavily trained for (I’ve worked in a manufacturing company before).

Anyway, I think there are jobs for everyone, but I think there’s a skill mismatch, so we still have this unemployment problem.

Some of the best workers that I ever had the privilege of having on my team were 40+! In my experience the older folks always seemed to be more reliable. Granted there are exceptions, but there is a lot to be said for the work ethic of the different generations.
