Security Cameras in Sleeping Quarters

by Call Center Gal on February 24, 2009

What would you feel if you know someone is looking at you while you’re sleeping?

I guess that’s what on everyone’s mind as soon as they found out that other call centers are placing their security cameras inside their ‘quiet rooms’.

Why resort to such move?

Well, if you remembered my post about a call center employee who stole my cash and personal effects, you would understand that they are just doing for security purposes. I know that my case isn’t isolated as I also got information that this was a problem in other call centers as well. Call center guards can only rove once in a while in the premises but most of them are not tasked to look after asleep employees in the quiet room.

Issue on Privacy

We have yet to know if there’s a corresponding legal consequence putting all these security cameras inside the sleeping quarters.

While there are also some who would argue that this ‘move’ invades their privacy, I beg to disagree. I would want to bank more on the security of the call center employee and his belongings rather than not having one in place. This will only encourage call center thieves to repeat their wrongdoings. You don’t want to be the next victim do you?

Conclusion

In the end, you have two choices, either you use their well secured sleeping room to quickly gain your work energy or just remain awake yet sluggish. Remember in the end, the way you ‘physically’ feel will be felt by your customer as he listens to you on the phone.

I would rather have a security camera in the sleeping quarters not only does this discourage the thieves but also those who make use of the room as a “honeymoon spot.”

I think that you should not sleep at work, you should sleep during the day same as if you had a day time job.

If you take a nap while on break for 30 minutes and then you wake up, its going to take time to get your body going.

I don’t think it’s invasion of privacy. I’m all for it, because of the added security measure. Not unless your doing something that you shouldn’t in the rest area. Then security cams can really get your heart going.

It entirely depends on the situation, while i would agree for installing security camera, on the other hand, would be concerned on my privacy and would not like employees peering what i do in my quarters.
