I cannot stress enough how much call center agents need to be careful when they head to work. As call center workers, we can only do so much to protect ourselves from harm. It won’t also hurt much if we will be too vigilant all the time especially when we’re on the road.
It was the last week in January when a Bacolod Convergys call center agent lost her valuables in the hands of these heartless robbers. They got a hold of her valuables like cash, phone, bank cards and identification cards, and yes, those items were all in the bag.
The victim was identified as Charlene Yelo and she never let that bad deed pass without giving them her piece of resistance. Too bad that she got injured on the left hand, leg, and back because of such bold move.
Which made me think. Do you think it would be recommended that the call center agents be given free martial arts training? It seemed odd at first because this was known to be only a guy sport, but if these incidents will continue then I guess it is better to also extend the same lesssons for the ladies especially those who work in a call center.
Better yet, add more police visibility especially in key areas or main roads. I hope that the government will recognize how much we pay our taxes on time. This is just a little improvement that will ago a long way for our call center workers who will make night and day a working day to make ends meet.
How about you? What other suggestions can you share to prevent this from happening again.

Martial arts while its a nice idea will not solve the problem of people getting robbed. As everyone knows martial arts is not something that is gonna be learned in a few weeks or months, even with years of training it wont help get your purse back when the bad guy grabs and runs. Being prepared for a encounter instead of being surprised would help alot more than martial arts. If you have to travel alone get some pepper spay, having that ready in hand and being aware of people moving toward you would probably make them less of a target. Carry your cash, bank cards and identification cards in your pocket, if you have to, get a under the clothes waist wallet or something.
The point is, if you are gonna carry a purse then don’t ever carry anything of value in it. You might as well carry a bank bag around with you as it’s the same thing to a thief, so again don’t carry your important things in there.
Be aware of where you are and what’s around you. Watch people coming toward you, watch behind you. Watch for motorbikes doing a drive and grab.
Travel with others if possible but be aware of everyone in the area even if you are with someone.

Hi Ktd,
These are very helpful suggestions indeed.
No one else can help us in times of trouble but ourselves.
Besides, this will be a great opportunity for businesses to offer martial arts classes to call center employees. With just the right branding coupled with marketing, a lot of call center employees might be enticed to enroll. What do you think?
Have a great day!
Martial Arts without investing a lot of time and dedication is just exercise. Exercise is good for everyone so yea it’s a good idea, just not a solution against purse snatchers.
Most women are injured due to being dragged by not letting go of their purse either intentionally or by accidentally getting tangled up in the strap and dragged. Not seeing the thief coming is the primary cause of injury.
One thing i am not clear on exactly are they talking about offering
martial arts or self defense?
In Martial Arts there are numerous ways to throw a punch at dozens of targets on the human body. As such, it takes a long time to develop any kind of proficiency.
Self-defense courses are much shorter in duration, the instructor knows they have limited time. As a result, they only teach a few useful strikes and defensive techniques.
Now that i think about it they are probably going to go with the self defense course which could help in certain situations.
greetings……..

hi charles. I’m just a concerned citizen. I lost my sister as well and have her back after so long. I think Nestor is familiar. He is now in Convergys Bacolod. His shift is 7:00 pm- 4:00 am. I hope you will see each other!
We know Nestor, but there’s no Jr. at the end of his name. I think you are referring to a wrong guy. You might want to report this to Police who can search for you Brother. Report him as a missing person so it can be posted for everyone to be aware of it. For Katherine, schedule does change everyweek. If you are from Convergys too, i think that’s not your real name. I am not against you(i mean). That’s just what I thought of and it’s purely opinion.
Hey! I’m not from Convergys but I have friends who works there. And I think I saw that Nestor guy. Well, in the first place, why would I care anyway, ayt? I mean, I was just browsing through the web and I saw this. The name sounds familiar so I decided to reply. I am concerned because I have been through the same problems as what Charles is experiencing and I know times like this is so frustrating that you just wanna give up. Right, Charles? I know how siblings care for each other.
But anyway, Charles, I will just try to describe the “Nestor Cacanando” that I know. He is thin *but not skinny*, he has a fair complexion, he speaks bisaya, and he is a little good looking. but not so. You can actually post pictures if you want to Charles. Or you can call Convergys Bacolod at 034 705 0111.
to More Concerned Citizen, it’s alright. I know both our intention is to help. And I hope Charles you will find each other. HAPPY HUNTING!
Hey guys, my name is Gregory Lopez. I know how it feels, charles. I am lost myself. Somebody, please find me.
I know Nestor Cacanando Jr. He is my friend. He now works in Convergys Bacolod. He is kinda skinny but not too much. He has fair complexion. With little scars on his face (these scars are white or skin toned so you may not notice it at a first glance). He stays is Saint Annes Dormitory fronting Robinsons Mall. I have his smart number but I doubt if he is still using this. He recently switched to Globe. here is his smart number, 09193254796. He told me from the last conversation that he will still be using this number. His TL is Ronnie Blanza. His BFF is Yeye. I’ll try if I can get his new globe number. I’ll post it here so that we can help you Charles. You can also post some picture of Nestor. That will be a big help. Hope you find him! Good luck!
I feel sorry to hear about what happened to this young lady. I am from Bacolod too but i’m in Manila right now. Nevertheless, regardless of location, it is a good idea that the government invest something for the security of this sector of the society. It is a fact that we have contributed a lot to our country’s revenue; therefore, it is but fair that they secure our safety.
Just wanna know; does convergys offer shuttle service to its employees? I hope they do.
