Call center employees usually work at night. They leave home for work late at night and sometimes even go out of the office while it is still dark. Because of this, call center workers have been a favorite of lawless individuals who rob them or worse, hurt them.
One of such unfortunate incidents that I’ve heard about happened just recently to a call center agent in Bacolod City.
At about 1am last Sunday, Ritchel Dacuja, a Convergys employee, was waiting for a jeepney when two men approached her and grabbed her bag. When she refused to let go of her bag, one of the men shot her three times.
It is not clear on what is her current condition.
To all my fellow call center employees, let us be extra careful and alert whenever we are on the road on the most ungodly hours of the night. Danger is always lurking wherever we are. Let us make a habit of at least saying a prayer before we go out.
