My Old Desktop PC

by admin on December 29, 2008

I have been blogging using my laptop for quite some time now. For years, I’ve been using my desktop PC from common word processing, simple image editing (I say simple because I’m not adept on it) and of course, surfing the web. But my desktop started to show its age about a year ago and it has been in and out of the repair shop. I’ve once paid for a memory upgrade because let’s admit it, 128mb of RAM could only do so much.

For a few months it worked fine until it started to slow down again. I was suspecting the problem lied deeper than just the RAM. I just thought my desktop had served me enough. So that’s why I bought my laptop.

My desktop PC is still here. I still use it occasionally although I find less and less reasons to use it. My laptop is currently my life and where all my Call Center Gal blogging is currently done. That’s life. That’s technology. You can’t expect it to last forever.

I suggest using a program called TuneUp Utilities and running their utilities. The most common problem with windows slowing down is usually registry issues. In our experience, using that program for weekly maintanence has proven priceless.

Your computer may also be getting bogged down with spyware. There are a few free spyware programs out there including Spybot S&D and Anti Malware. Both are free and both are very effective.

aww.. you moved from a PC to a laptop, that’s a progress I say.
meanwhile, I’m still using my 2 laptops. one is the obsolete model (PII, 128MB) which would took the whole coffe break duration just to boot-up; while the other is a new DualCore-powered Lenovo I bought since I need to work faster :D

just like you, I also have less and less reason to work with the old-one, but it always provide me some support in a crutial time.. so I decided to keep it

When you finally do throw out your PC, make sure you recycle it properly. A lot of services that “recycle” old computer waste really just sell it overseas where they pay people a couple bucks a day to take them apart, melt out the metals, etc. The conditions are bad and unhealthy.
