Don't Trust Your Co-Employees. Especially When You're Asleep

by Call Center Gal on November 4, 2008

I lost P6,000 today (about USD 122).

I was sleeping in our office’s sleeping quarters when the security guard woke me up. She said they found my bag in the girl’s restroom, in total disarray and the picture-perfect example of a hand bag that has just been went through by a thief.

Yes, as I was sleeping soundly, someone stole my bag and took all of my cash. Including all the coins in my coin purse.

Apparently I was not the first victim because there were seven others before me. Some lost cash, others cellphones.

One thing’s clear. Whoever took my money is a fellow employee in the call center I’m working for. The security there is so tight that no outsiders can easily come inside.

I now just leave that thief’s fate to God. Let Him bestow what is due to that heartless fool.

You know what, theft is not unusual in our line of work in the call center. My colleague just lost P4,500 because he just left his wallet in his pedestal while training one guy on the floor. He didn’t realized that the guy has a record of borrowing money from fellow officemates and not paying. The guy who was the only suspect suddenly resigns and it definitely create a stir in our account.

my best also lost 2k weeks ago. she left her purse sa cr, after 15mins, wala na yung purse. ang masaklap, lahat ng ATMs, credit cards and lincense, kasama. ang hirap kaya mag apply ng affidavit of loss. stress. we checked sa MIS, unfortunately, naka OFF yung cam. kaya di namin mahagilap ang ayuf na yun

nakakaasar yung thought na alam mo na may officemate kang magnanakaw, ang hirap maging at ease.

yaan mo na…what goes around, comes around.

Hi,

I’m sorry to hear what happened. There will always be thieves everywhere. I hope you learnt your lesson and next time you will sleep with your bag.

Here in South Africa, if you don’t tie it down then it magically grows feet and walks away.

What a horrible experience. If there has been an incidence of theft before, what has the company done to mitigate the situation?

By the way, I’ve now uploaded the show from last Saturday. Enjoy!

I’m awfully sorry to hear that :( , especially at times like these losing 6k is not a joke. Even in the office theft is prevalent that’s why management decided to bring down all our lockers surrounded by cameras nabawasan naman; yung nawawalan na lang ng cellphone sa amin are the ones who keep bringing them inside our quiet rooms (although bawal na before pa). So far thank God nothing like that has happened to me…so far…the last time I forgot my phone in the diners but someone returned it to me. God bless him! Don’t worry DIGITAL na ang karma :) Thanks for dropping i really appreciate it! God bless!

Hi Everyone,

I still can’t believe that someone took my hard earned money just like that. But I always believe that something better is in store for me and for that, I am always thankful. I just have to be more careful next time ;)

It happened to me in Sitel, sleeping quarters din, i took an hour’s nap, and then this girl suddenly woke me up, startled and thinking na late na ako, i wore my shoes and hurried to my station, when I got there, hindi naman ako late, then i remembered my purse, but when i got there ala na yung purse, ala na rin yung girlash, di ko pa man din sya namukhaan. tapos helpless at hopeless din ang security dahil nga maraming labas pasok from the quarters. sa teleperformance naman, yung isang ka team mate ko, nawala buong bag may kumuha sa locker na may lock! clueless din ang security. talk about hard times nga naman!

This is an old article but I’d just thought I’d share my own experience here. At the only call center I worked for, I used to keep my stuff in a locker without a using padlock for it. All my valuables and gadgets were kept in there and I never had any problems with that kind of setup for months. Either I was lucky or my coworkers there were just more trustworthy.

One time I even lost my wallet there and the one who found it even called me up so she could return it. I was really touched by her good act. Point is… don’t let your guard down but also don’t be too paranoid about this.
