Ask Callcentergal: Are Nursing Graduates Banned in Call Centers?

by Call Center Gal on June 18, 2008

This issue has been circulating among call center applicants and I want to share my take on this issue.

Nursing Graduates are Welcome To Apply Because:

Call Centers Being Equal Opportunity Employers
As long as you pass the interviews and other requirements for employment, this shouldn’t be a problem. Most call center companies claim of being an equal opportunity employer. If you happen to experience discrimination in your application, please let everyone know so they can also be warned.

Concern to Hit the Numbers
What do we mean by ‘numbers’? This is a recruitment term to mean target number of qualified hires. There are a lot of Nursing graduates qualified to apply in call centers. If processed, these numbers will be very helpful for the recruiters to meet their targets.

Accounts Fit for Nursing Graduates
Who says you won’t use what you’ve learned in school when you work in call centers? There are clients that prefer hiring Nursing graduates because of accounts related to healthcare. How would you know? Just check the job postings around. Most of them will give you a hint of what their account is about thus, selecting graduates of specific courses.

In conclusion, call center employers will be more concerned on your integrity, competence and commitment to do the job well. So if you’re a Nursing graduate and you’re reading this post, give it a shot, and let us know your call center experience.

How about your take on this issue?

Till next post,

At last may sumagot din sa question ko hehe. This fallacy has been circulating since 2005 pa. Marami ako former RN students na naghesistate mag apply because of the rumored discrimination. Buti di totoo

salamat kapatid sa dalaw ha. pasensya na at ngayon lang ako nakapunta dito. Im juggling my time talaga. medyo di ako magaling sa time management kaya parati ako delayed sa response. Anyhow one of these days add kita sa blogroll ko.

The Bosses told us to fail those applicants who are nursing grads or in extreme cases nursing students or anything to do with nursing. Sa initial interview pa lang binabagsak, or if my exam katulad nang versant kahit pasado pa yung applicant ibabagsak siya…hindi kasalanan nang mga tagaHR yun utos mismo ng mga boss mismo. Apply kausa mga equal opportunity employers.

CONVERGYS and ETELECARE are one of those call centers who are not hiring nurses or nursing graduates. The reason behind is that the hired RNs will soon leave the institutions if their applications abroad are already achieved wherein fact others are still unemployed and on the same hand have no plans in going abroad!!!! Very discriminating and I hope the government will have an action to this.

Sad but true. I have call center experience. A few of my friends have call center experience but decided to take up nursing as second course. Pasado lahat but because nasa resume namin ang kahit ano about nursing, binagsak kme. may call center experience na ha. Gagawin ko, i’ll fabricate another course nalang… para lang magkatrabaho!

Yeah, this is true. Its more of an issue daw kasi on how long will they stay with the company once they pass their board exams… and medyo hindi n lang sya for Nursing, its for anyone na paramedical ang tinapos na may licensure exams, especially if hindi ka pa nag take ng licensure… mataas kasi attrition rate ng mga nursing grads sa call centers, especially the last 2 years…

I just read some of the comments and I have to say that most BPO’s does not discriminate applicants, especially nurses for that matter.

To be honest, these companies will choose to have nurses as last options because they have experience a massive resignation when the results of the board exams are given.

Sad to say, those that are really interested to apply and work in a call center has been branded already because of other people’s fault.

Applicants who failed final interviews are those who are not motivationally fit to work in call centers.

This can be of two reasons -

1. They tell the recruiter that as soon as they get their license, they will practice their professions.

2. Or the typical answer of – “since I can’t start my profession yet, I’ll try to work in a call center” and the ever famous “I want to hone my english communications skills” for my future endeavors abroad.

Just sharing from a Recruiter’s point of view.

Just read your comments here guys! I can say NOT all BPO companies discriminate Nursing graduates. I’m a fresh grad and so happy to be part of one of the leading companies in the entire world! When I was on a profile interview, I was able to share this issue to my interviewer. He felt sad when he knew about it. So the interview turned out to be an open forum! Haha. Just sharing. Depende lang talaga yan sa company. Hope you can choose the right one. :)
